After the gardens, we wandered through Chinatown. Many large buildings have replaced the old rowhouses and street markets over the years, but in various corners there are colorful shops, food hawkers, temples and restored rowhouses.
There is also a Chinese Heritage Museum that recounts the history of Chinese moving to Singapore and recreates their living conditions in a typical 3-story rowhouse. It must have been VERY dark, smelly and cramped.
In the midst of where the older sections meet the new, we also stumbled upon a lovely temple that sheltered us from a steady rain. The details of the building were lovely and precise.
I also fell in love with these stone lions. Too heavy to bring home...But I am now on a mission to bring one home. :)
