Lantern Festival Party

We've been lucky to make friends with a few locals Penangites, who have introduced us to wonderful places and events that we would otherwise miss or just be able to admire from afar. One friend who is Straits Chinese invited us to her family's clan house (called a Kongsi) for a dinner party during the Lantern Festival. This was a rare treat, as entering the Ong Kongsi is usually allowed only for clan members, and since this kongsi is near our apartment, it was especially fun for us to get an inside peak at a neighborhood treasure. Dinner was delicious...a variety of Nonya foods were served. Nonya cuisine blends Chinese and Malay flavors and ingredients into unique dishes that help make Penang food famous.
