Hi All. Been a while. Everyday life has kept us busy since we returned from Malaysia. Almost six years ago. What the... ?! Where did that time go? Oh yeah, everyday life.
Well, Pelle still works at Intel and we now face a serious first world problem – time to take his second, 2-month sabbatical. We've already put it off 2 years, and it's now time to use it or lose it. Um, I pick 'use'. We are spoiled indeed.
As all smart travelers do, we spun a globe and randomly picked our destinations. Well, no. Since we have hit most of the more typical travel destinations for Americans (Europe and Southeast Asia), and because we are now committed sailors, we decided that Latin America and the Caribbean were the places for us.
Without much more than a desire to see interesting places and do 'harder' activities while our knees and minds can handle it, we set a loose itinerary. Others might be more scientific with how and when they choose to spend their time, but we mostly just checked weather patterns, read a few blogs, and consulted friends who'd traveled in Latin America.
So, this time it's: Portland-Belize-Panama-Argentina-Uruguay-Chile-Peru-St Vincent & The Grenadines-Grenada-Rhode Island-Portland. Some people would argue 8 countries in 10 weeks is too much, but we know ourselves and feel that a week or two in each place will suffice. We also know we can return to the places that really draw us in.
Time to dust off the high school Spanish, I guess. And figure out how to pack for such a trip.
