Adventure days on Langkawi

We took off for the small island of Langkawi over the weekend. Just a 30-minute hop, and we were in tropical paradise.  I had to pinch myself to make sure it was real. Our first couple of days were action-packed, scooter-ing, Segway-ing (yes, like on a Segway), and SCUBA-ing. We stayed at a new hotel called The Danna (OMG, best hotel ever), which is near the Langkawi Cable Car. The cable car purports to be the steepest in the world. They also claim something like 'the longest free span' which in English means that there are only 2 or 3 support towers along the whole ride. Uh, not at all disconcerting.

At the top, we were at about 700 meters above sea level with gorgeous views of the dense jungle, cliffs and surrounding Andaman Sea. The sea and sky blended together in the distance although we could make out a sailboat here and there. Happily, there wasn't much wind on this crazy suspension bridge. Not for the faint of heart!

I never thought I'd say this, but taking the Segway tour was actually fun. I felt (and looked) like a total dork, but it was off-road through the dirt and trees, so only the monkeys and birds could stare. It felt a bit like backwoods skiing, at which I, um, do not excel. But P was ready for Summer X Games.
Our day diving at Pulau Payar Marine Park was OK -- just glad to be back in the water despite low visibility and sadly bleaching coral. But ending with white sand and sun over a cold Tiger beer was not too shabby.
