Beaches, mountains, cities, wine country. Sailing, trekking, camping, diving, wandering.
Not an easy trip to figure out what to pack. And most packing lists by professional travel bloggers focus on the minimum needed for function and comfort. We are not that type of people. I want to look good and feel good and not have to do laundry in the sink every few days. I want location- and climate-appropriate clothing so I can blend in like a local, not stick out like an American in my zip-off travel pants.
So, 2 shorts, 2 skirts, 3 pants, 1 dress, 2 workout pants, 2 workout tops, 2.5 bathing suits, 1 rashguard, 3 tanks, 3 t-shirts, 3 long-sleeves 3 bras, 2 sports bras, a sweater, a rain jacket, and miscellaneous socks and undies later, I'm ready for anything.
With the help of some friends who are meeting us along the way, and bringing some specialized things along with them for us (PFDs, thermals, fleeces, sailing gloves, etc), I have managed to pack all my clothes into a neat set of travel cubes. These cubes and my shoes, along with all our toiletries and my snorkel gear slide easily into my pack. Our camera gear and laptop fits into my carry-on backpack. Although I will look a bit silly as a double-turtle traveler wandering airport terminals, I am not over my baggage weight limit and I don't think I'll throw my back out. Phew.
